A vehicle for success
It’s not often that we get to sponsor an F1 car, but just recently that’s just what we did. Okay, we’re stretching the truth a little here, but we did sponsor a team from Colmore Junior School in the national Jaguar F1 Primary School Challenge.
The aim of the competition is to promote STEM subjects in schools and helps children solve real life problems. The challenge is to design and build the fastest possible car and to race it against other teams, leading to a national final.
We sponsored a Y6 team called the Vipers, who had spent eight months developing and honing a prototype F1 car. Designed using software called Silhouette Studios and built in cardboard, the Vipers’ car beat off competition from other Colmore teams to make the regional final. The Vipers used our sponsorship to buy team uniforms for this exciting event.
Held at Aston University at the end of April, the Vipers found regionals a rigorous test. Not only were they racing against four other schools, the team also had to prove their engineering and make a pitch to the judges.
Although they put up a valiant effort, the Vipers came fourth and sadly didn’t progress to nationals. Nevertheless we’re very proud of their efforts and our sponsorship. Well done Vipers, we hope this experience has sparked a passion for science and engineering in you!
