Dialect and Heritage map: a website update

We have made exciting new updates to the Dialect and Heritage map

Do you know your brew from your buns? Your spittle from your strew? If not, the our latest update to the University of Leeds Dialect and Heritage Project website, might be right up your street.

After launching their site in 2021, we were delighted to help the Dialect and Heritage team to develop their current dialect map.

New map development

The map now features brand new ‘hotspots’ featuring 313 locations where historical content on dialect has been collected. These hotspots present a range of resources, such as historical photos, archive audio recordings, documents and resource links.

The map creates a rich and immersive environment in which users can explore places they grew up, visited or where they live and understand some of the words ‘the locals’ use.

This is facinating project to work on and a real glimpse into our collective recent past. And now, after this big announcement, its time for us to clock off and have a ‘brew’, ‘mask’, ‘mash, ‘wet’ or ‘soak’ (can you guess what these words refer to?).
