Objectives
At a time when UK libraries were facing unprecedented challenges, we were commissioned by the British Council in Pakistan to use digital technology to help transform how library services are accessed and experienced.
Our work began in 2014, when we collaborated closely with the British Council Libraries team in Pakistan to develop an innovative online offer to sit alongside the physical transformation of their libraries in Lahore and Karachi. As the new libraries opened their doors in 2016, so too did the British Council Pakistan Digital Library.
With smartphone usage in Pakistan far exceeding the use of laptops and desktop computers, the Digital Library was designed with a clear mobile-first focus. Most recently, the British Council team asked us to help:
Improve access to digital resources, articles and library events
Deepen engagement with current and new audiences
Refresh the design and branding of the website
Solutions
The website uses WordPress to deliver a dynamic and flexible front-end experience, such as the library catalogue, events and curated articles.
As part of the refresh, we introduced a suite of modular content blocks that pull content directly. These modules create intuitive user journeys, helping audiences discover relevant and engaging content more easily.
All components were styled in line with the latest British Council brand guidelines, delivering an updated look and feel while allowing for efficient future design changes as the Digital Library continues to grow.
