Objectives
myTube was created to support people living with MND and ALS by providing clear, accessible and empathetic information about living with a gastrostomy tube.
Developed in close collaboration with patients, carers, clinicians and researchers, the project aimed to use digital technology and video storytelling to address a sensitive and often difficult subject in a supportive and human way.
Provide practical, reassuring information for people considering or living with a gastrostomy tube
Use short-form video content to make complex and emotional topics easier to understand
Ensure the resource was shaped by lived experience through close collaboration with patients and carers
Create a trustworthy digital platform supported by clinical expertise
Raise awareness of the resource and encourage sharing to maximise its impact
Solutions
We worked alongside filmmakers Optical Jukebox and the team at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITRaN) to design and deliver the myTube website.
Short-form video
myTube was developed around short, carefully produced video clips featuring patients, carers and clinicians, ensuring information was delivered in a clear, empathetic and accessible format. Throughout the project, collaboration was central, with contributors playing an active role in shaping both content and tone.
Media launch
The official launch event in Sheffield provided an opportunity to celebrate the project, thank contributors and help amplify its reach. Media coverage following the launch helped spread awareness of myTube and encouraged wider sharing of the resource to support as many people as possible.
